Stellar Observatory Idle
Collect starlight. Process data. Catalog the cosmos.
Run a growing observatory from a hilltop refractor to galactic-scale arrays. Tap to observe, buy equipment, ride the day/night cycle, and unlock deeper facility tiers as your sky catalog fills with real astronomy targets.
Play in your browser above — no download required.
First load: the browser build is ~40 MB. Give it 30–60 seconds on a typical connection. After that, progress saves locally in your browser.
How to play
- Observe the sky to gather starlight
- Buy Telescopes, Photometers, and Grad Students in the shop
- Convert starlight into Data and Discoveries
- Fill the Sky Catalog (25 real objects — from Andromeda to GW170817)
- Prestige to a darker site for permanent bonuses, then charter the Galactic Network for endgame scaling
Built-in tutorial walks you through the basics. Works with mouse or touch.
Features
- Idle / incremental loop — starlight, data, and discoveries as three production chains
- Day / night cycle — starlight yield drops during daylight; upgrades and prestige help you push through
- Sky catalog — 25 named deep-sky targets, each with a short astronomy blurb and a permanent bonus
- Facility tiers — Hilltop Site, Radio Wing, Space Network, Deep Field Array
- Two prestige layers — Dark-Sky Rating (run reset) and Galactic Mandate (meta reset)
- 24+ producers — telescopes, correlators, orbital platforms, Mandala Arrays, and more
- Research upgrades — click power, global output, daylight resistance, producer discounts
- Observation programs & contracts — nightly goals and research contracts
- Sky events — clouds, comets, and transients
- Achievements and journal — track milestones from First Light to Master Cartographer
- Offline progress — earn while away (up to 24 hours)
- Save tools — local autosave, backup, export/import, and cloud save codes
- Ambient audio — day/night soundscapes and UI feedback
- Accessibility — UI and text size sliders in Settings
Facility progression
- Hilltop Site — available from the start
- Radio Wing — 500 lifetime discoveries
- Space Network — Dark-Sky Rating 3
- Deep Field Array — Galactic Mandate 1
Controls
- Click / tap — observe, buy, navigate tabs
- Shop tabs — Equipment, Research, Catalog, Dark-Sky, Galactic
- Journal — stats and achievements
- Settings (gear icon) — display, audio, save management, supporter edition
Portrait-oriented UI — comfortable on phone browsers and desktop.
Save data
Progress is stored locally on your device (browser storage or app data). Clearing site data or uninstalling removes your save. Use export / cloud save codes in Settings to back up or move between devices.
Request data deletion (Google Play players — optional Google cloud backup is covered there too).
Version 0.5.1
- Equipment economy overhaul and shop buy-flow improvements
- Research contracts, comet events, observation programs
- Settings menu (display, saves, supporter edition) split from Journal
- UI and text size sliders
- Cloud save codes, backup, and export/import
- Balance and tutorial polish
Made with Godot 4.6. Feedback, ratings, and comments are very welcome — they help more players find the game.
Stellar Observatory is a fan-made idle game with an astronomy theme. Celestial object names and descriptions are inspired by real targets; this is not an educational or scientific simulation.
